Hong KOng Visa

Most nationalities do not need a visa when they travel to Hong Kong. Citizens of Angola, Cameron, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Sierra Lone, Somalia, Sri Llanka, and Togo have to personally apply at the Chinese Embassy in their home country.

Hong Kong visa applicants need to complete visa application forms ID 1003A and ID 1003B. They should submit these together with other documents to the Receipt and Dispatch Unit, Immigration Department, 2/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, by mail or through a local sponsor. For faster processing of applications, these forms and supporting documents may be sent through fax but original copies should still be sent to the Hong Kong Immigration Department. A visa/entry permit is issued upon the Department"s receipt of the original. E-mailed applications are not accepted.

There are copies of ID 1003A and ID 1003B forms in Chinese embassies around the world. Foreign passport holders who live in the Chinese Mainland may submit the applications to the Immigration Division of the Office of the Government of the HKSAR in Beijing (Beijing Office).

The visa-free travel to Hong Kong started in January 1998. Today frequent tourists with valid passports are issued Hong Kong Travel Passes. Applicants should express a sincere need to come to Hong Kong regularly. They must have had trouble-free visits in 3 or more instances (this does not include return trips from Mainland China or Macau) within a year before the application. Applicants should be able to convince the Director of Immigration that their visit can bring benefits to Hong Kong.

Furthermore, no visa or entry permit is required if you hold any of the following travel documents:

-Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Passport,
-British National (Overseas) Passport,
-Hong Kong Certificate of Identity,
-Hong Kong Re-entry permit (for entry from the Mainland of China and the Macao Special Administrative Region only),
-Hong Kong Seaman"s Identity Book,
-Hong Kong Document of Identity for Visa Purposes, (so long as the document is valid or the holder"s limit of stay in Hong Kong has not expired),
-travel documents bearing one of the following endorsements:
-"Holder"s eligibility for Hong Kong permanent identity card verified" or "The holder of this travel document has the right to land in Hong Kong. (Section 2AAA, Immigration Ordinance, Cap. 115, Laws of Hong Kong)",
-and a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card.

If you do not have these documents, you are required to get a visa or entry permit to work, study, establish a business, and live in Hong Kong.

Tourists should show proof that they have enough funds for the length of their stay in Hong Kong. Visitors are not allowed by law to work, set up business, or enter a school as a student, nor change status after arriving in Hong Kong.

If you are a Chinese resident of Taiwan, you should submit your application for an entry permit through airlines recognized by the government of China.

Finally, a Hong Kong tourist visa is not required for citizens of the United States for a stay up to 90 days.
