People

The US is one of the countries that has the most diverse ethnic groups due to the vast number of immigrants that can be found in the country. There are 306 million people residing in the US, and they come from all different ethnic backgrounds and nationalities. Because of the amount of people migrating to the US, it has a multi-cultural population that is majorly composed of Native Americans, Mexicans, African-Americans, and Caucasians. There are also many Asians, Europeans and Chinese in the US.

New York, New York is the largest city in the US followed by Los Angeles, California. Chicago, Illinois and Houston, Texas follow as number three and four respectively with Phoenix, Arizona coming in as fifth.

Geography

If combined, the total land area of the US would have a vast size of 1.9 billion acres. Alaska is separated from mainland US by Canada and is the largest among the 50 states with a land area of 365 million acres. Hawaii is about only 4 million acres and can be found in the central Pacific, southwest of the mainland. The US is either the third or fourth largest country in terms of land area, depending on the disputable land area between China and India. The country is filled with deciduous forests and rolling hills. It has rivers, mountains, and green lands. Due to its big size, a lot of land types can be found thus giving it a diverse range of greens and plains.

History

The indigenous people of America included Alaskan natives that migrated from Asia. They first settled around 40,000 years ago. Then in 1492, Christopher Columbus who served under the Spanish Crown reached the area and made the first contract with these indigenous people. In 1513, Juan Ponce de Leon landed in what would soon be found as the US mainland.

America passed under British control but was able to gain independence. The American Revolutionary War was fought between 1775 and 1784. On the July 14, 1775, the Continental Congress that was convening in Philadelphia established its Continental Army under the rule of George Washington. Their Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776.

After the British were defeated by the Americans with aid from the French, Great Britain then recognized the independence of the United States and their sovereignty.

Famous Attractions

If you are going on a tour of the US, first on your list would have to be the New York Times Square. It is one of the busiest and most glamorous parts of the City with a lot of shopping, dining, and watching involved. It quite literally has everything in this one place.

Next would be the memorial parks in Washington, D.C. It has most of the iconic memorials and parks in the country such as the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. Another place to visit would have to be the Grand Canyon that was carved by the mighty Colorado River below.

Still no visit to the US will ever be complete without heading out to Las Vegas to play at the most luxurious casinos in the country. It also has a lot of stunning shows, entertainment and shopping districts. And of course, who can ever forget Disneyland?

Nightlife

When it comes to nightlife, the US will never fall behind the times. Go to any city and you will find a place to spend the night away. But if you plan to really live it up; Las Vegas is the place for you. Here casinos of all shapes and sizes will keep you awake and having fun all night long. It also has a wide array of restaurants and diners to fill up your stomach as you enjoy the night away.

Culture

Since America is a combination of a lot of ethnicities and races, its culture will be as diverse and as unique as those groups. It is said to be a fully westernized culture with influences from its European immigrants coupled with Latin American culture and also traits brought in by the African-Americans. Because of this mix, the US culture can be said to be as diverse as possible and yet unified where individual heritages are distinct yet blended into one society.

Cuisine

Food in the US is quite similar to Europe's with wheat as its primary grain. Early traditional American food was usually made from turkey or deer with sweet potatoes and corn, which were the indigenous food items used by the Native Americans and early European settlers.

Slow cooked meats such as grilled or barbecued chicken or steak are also classics of American cooking. Due to America's massive cultural diversity, other ethnic foods have also been mixed in such as Mexican food combined to the traditional American cooking giving rise to Mexi-Cali cuisine.

French fries, burgers, pizzas, and hotdogs have also been identified as pure American foods and can be found and sold almost anywhere in the US.
