Norman Manley International Airport mainly serves Kingston and nearby cities. It was named in honor of Norman Washington Manley, one of Jamaica's seven heroes.
Norman Manley handles more than 130 international flights a week while Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay is one of the biggest and busiest airports in the Caribbean. It is the major gateway to the Caribbean. It links St. James with the north Coast of Jamaica. The was named after Jamaica former prime minister, Sir Donald Sangster.
The airport was built in 1936. The first international airline that landed at the airport was Pan American Airways, back when the structure was a little more than an aerodrome. Today Sangster International Airport's handles an average of 5.6 million passengers yearly. SIA boasts of an air terminal that stretches 47,000 square feet wide. The terminal has twelve more loading bridges and gates, an expanded Apron, and over 750 parking spaces. Moreover travelers can now shop at nine huge duty free stores and 24 retail stores within the area.
Meanwhile, San Juan International Airport is the gateway to the Caribbean. San Juan International Airport has the most number of flights connecting to the other islands. As Puerto Rico's main airport, San Juan International Airport is served by intercontinental jets such as US Airways, United, Northwest, Delta, Continental Air Canada, British Airways, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, among others.
SJIA Terminal looks out on the ocean. American Airlines has its own terminal here. Concourses A, B, and C are the newest structures in the airport. USDA checkpoints are located at the entrance of the terminal and at the ticketing and checking counters. There are duty-free shops in each concourse of the airport. And while waiting for your flight you might want to snack at the terminal's cafes.
