Known for its amazing landscape of clear waters and lush greenery, the city of Taupo is a well-kept secret at the bottom of the world. It is a popular hot spot for bungee jumping, jet boating, fly-fishing and other adventure sports. Taupo's central location makes it easy to be used as a base for touring the surrounding Tongariro National Park, Mount Ruapehu, and the western bays of New Zealand by car or the public transport system. Special bus networks are also available to take you on an adventure tour. Huka Falls, Wairakei Natural Thermal Valley, and Taupo Bungy are other things you may want to check out.
Currently, no nonstop flights from the United States to Taupo are available. However, Qantas flies direct from Los Angeles to Auckland while Air New Zealand flies from Honolulu and San Francisco to Auckland, from which one can catch a fast, low-cost domestic flight into Taupo. Some of Auckland's popular airlines include Air Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Qantas, and Emirates. Alternatively, you can fly from Australia, which carries a significant amount of direct international flights and offers many budget connecting flights to Taupo. Do try to travel on a mid-week, low volume days like Wednesday or Thursday to save on airfare.
