Paro Airport (PBH) is the only airport in Bhutan and is situated six kilometers from the town of Paro. It is located at an altitude of over 2,200 meters in a valley that is on the banks of the Paro River. Surrounding mountains of the Himalayan range are as high as 5,500 meters, which makes take off and landing a very difficult task. Flights are allowed to operate only in good weather conditions and restricted to daytimes. Pilots need to be specially certified to land at this airport.
