Manado is the capital and largest city of North Sulawesi, on the island of Sulawesi; it borders the province of Gorontalo to the west. The islands of Sangihe and Talaud form the northern part of the province, which border the Philippines. Ecotourism is the biggest attraction in Manado. Also popular are scuba diving and snorkeling on the nearby island of Bunaken. Another tourist spot in the city, especially during the Chinese New Year celebration, is Ban Hin Kiong Temple. Souvenirs shops are located on B.W. Lapian street. Other places of interest are nearby Lake Tondano, Lokon Volcano, Klabat Volcano, and Mahawu Volcano.
