With a population of over one million residents, Lille is the fourth largest city in France. Located along the France-Belgium border, Lille offers pleasant summers and dry winters. Points of interest include Jardin Botanique de la Faculte de Pharmacie, Jardin Botanique Nicolas Boulay, Jardin des Plantes de Lille, and the Citadel of Lille. Filled with some of Europe's top schools, Lille offers many of the attractions typical to university towns, including a bubbling nightlife, many wonderful restaurants and shops, and great access to public transportation. Not only is Lille located on the Eurorail, but the Lille Lesquin International Airport is also located a short fifteen minute drive from the city center.
Eight airlines including Air France and Ryanair serve Lille. Many flights are available to the city from various locations around the world, so finding a flight should be no problem. One of the best ways to obtain inexpensive flights is to travel during the off-peak season. Additionally, if you fly during the middle of the week, you not only avoid crowds, but you can usually obtain cheaper tickets. Many airlines also run special promotions, so you should check into this before booking a flight.
