The capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, is every bit the modern city. Located in the northern region of the country, Islamabad and its sister city Rawalpindi are a cultural smorgasbord where ancient meets modern in the most intriguing ways. Some of the attractions include the Pakistan Heritage Museum, the Rose and Jasmine Garden, Rawal Lake, and the Pakistan Museum of Natural History. It also has a number of other incredible sites, such as the Faisal Mosque. Historic ruins are also near the city, and excellent examples of Islamic architecture abound in Islamabad.

Most flights to Islamabad include a stopover in Dubai, Hong Kong, or Bangkok. Direct flights are rarer, and therefore more expensive, so an indirect flight is the cheapest option. Midweek prices are generally lowest in most cases, though the flux is less for flights to Islamabad because there is not the weekend holiday traffic that overwhelms many other metropolitan cities like Paris or London. Pakistan International Airline is one of the cheapest options for flights to Islamabad, and they offer non-stop flights to many European gateways, so booking with two carriers can often result in a cheaper deal. Etihad and Emirates also operate many flights from Islamabad, though all stopover in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Thai Airways is another cheaper option if you are travelling from Asia or Australia.
