Airports in Vietnam

There are nine international airports in the Vietnam: Can Tho, Chu Lai, Lien Khuong, Da Nang, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Tan Son Phu, and Cam Ranh .

The facility is 170 kilometers south of Ho Chi Minh City. Can Tho International Airport has undergone a major renovation in 2005. It was expanded to be able to handle Boeing 767 and other big carriers. The terminal is estimated to cover more than 20,000 square meters. Can Tho Airport was set up by the US Air Force during the Vietnam War in 1965. It closed at the end of the war and re-opened in 1975.

On January 4, 2009 Can Tho received its first flight after decades. Prime Minister Nguyen Tang Dung landed at the airport with his wife. Leaders from the Mekong Delta Provinces were also among the passengers. By its completion in 2011, Can Tho Airport will handle flights to Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan.

Noi Ba International Airport, on the other hand, is the biggest airport north of Vietnam. NBIA, primarily serving Hanoi, has a 10-million passenger capacity. In 2005, Tiger Airways and Air Asia started direct flights between Hanoi and Bangkok. Singapore Airlines launched an Airbus 380 flight in 2007. In 2008, NBIA had eight million passenger movements. It is a bit surprising in that there is only one terminal at the moment. Terminal features are anything but flashy but passengers cannot underestimate the thrill at trying local shops and authentic Vietnamese foods in the city center.

Vietnam has long been at the grip of imperialist countries: first by the French and then the Unites States.
