Airports in Singapore

The biggest and only operational airport in the country is the Singapore Changi Airport. Seletar Airport is a small gateway used for charter flights.

Singapore Changi Airport (CIA), one of the best airports in the world, serves 80 airlines to 190 countries. CIA averages 70 million passengers yearly. After Terminal 1 started operations in 1981, it has undergone a series of upgrades. With its brand new look, Terminal 1 handles more than 4,500 arrivals and departures in a week or about 37 million passengers a year. But the facelift does not end there. In the next few months, Terminal 4 will soon be built next to the airport's 3rd runway. Terminal 4 will have a patterned glass canopy, cascading water from the ceiling, tropical resort themes in the piazza of the concourse area, more shopping and dining choices throughout the terminal.

CIA's budget terminal, connecting with 20 cities in Southeast Asia, handles low cost carriers. CIA plans to add nine more airlines this year.

On the other hand, Seletar Airport is a small airport built by the British before World War II. Today, it is mainly used for flying classes and charter flights. The facility remained under British supervision until 1968.

Singapore is an island city-state that lies south of Johor, Malaysia and north of the Riau Islands of Indonesia. It is the smallest nation in Southeast Asia. Singapore has one of the most highly developed market-based economies in the world using an export driven economy. Despite the recent economic downturn, the country has remained stable with its vast foreign reserves and commercial activities.
