Airports in Kyrgyzstan

The country lists four airports with the Manas International Airport, located in the capital of Bishkek, as the largest gateway in and out of Kyrgyzstan. Other important airports in Kyrgyzstan are Kant Airport in Kant, Osh Airport in Osh City, and Tamchy Airport in Ysyk-Kol.

Manas International Airport, named after a local mythical hero, is about 16 miles northwest of Bishkek. Passengers may go back and forth from the city through busses and taxis for hire. Manas Airport has a 13, 800 foot runway, with its facility spanning over 37 acres. A 60-bed military hospital and a recreation center are also located near the airport. Cafes, a foreign exchange counter, shops, a business center, and a duty-free store can be found inside the airport. Manas International Airport, being rebuilt in 1988, handles an average of five commercial flights a day. It receives airlines from a number of countries around the world such as British Airways, Emirates Airlines, and Lufthansa Airlines.

Kyrgyzstan is a former Soviet republic. The country shares its borders to the north with Kazakhstan, to the west with Uzbekistan, to the southwest with Tajikistan and to the east with China. Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country dominated by Tian Shan that is 80% of the lands of the country. The country had encountered hardship because of the loss of the markets for its goods and services.

Kyrgyzstan is divided into seven provinces called oblasts with governors over each as prime administrators. The provinces are Batken, Chui, Jalal-Abad, Naryn, Osh, Talas, and Issyk-Kul.
