Airports in the Republic of Georgia

Tbilisi International Airport is the biggest airport in Georgia. Other airports are located in Batumi, Kutaisi, and Sukhumi.

Since 2000, Georgian economy has been steadily going up, having one of the fastest growing economies in Eastern Europe today. Tourism is pivotal in Georgia. An average of one million tourists had landed at the Tbilisi International Airport in 2006. Tbilisi Airport is the most modern airport in the Caucasian region in terms of safety, being equipped with high precision technology. Tbilisi Airport has been growing rapidly in terms service and capacity after undergoing a major renovation in 2007. Today the new terminal building is expected to serve around 2.8 million passengers in a year.

The Republic of Georgia is a former Soviet Union Republic. It is bounded by the Black Sea to the west, by Russia to the north, by Turkey and Armenia to the south and by Azerbaijan to the east. It was one of the first countries to embrace Christianity in the early 4th century. The climate of the country is extremely diverse despite its small size. There are two major rivers in Georgia: Rioni and Mtkvari. The highest mountain in the country is Mount Shkhara, rising 5,201 meters above sea level.

Georgia is divided into nine regions and two autonomous republics. The republics are Abkhazia and Ajaria. The main cities of Georgia are: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi and Rustavi. Georgia has an ongoing conflict with South Ossetia, a breakaway region.
