An official member of Star Alliance, the world's first and largest airline alliance, Turkish Airlines is the national carrier of Turkey. Turkish Airlines is based in Istanbul, with the majority of its international services functioning out of Ataturk International Airport.

Where Do They Fly

With 32 domestic and 123 international flights, Turkish Airlines covers most of Asia with concentrations at the South, West, Southwest, and Central regions of the continent. It also flies to Africa, Europe, Brazil, Canada, and United States.


Check in times are one hour and two hours prior to the scheduled time of departure for domestic and international flights respectively. Counters close 45 minutes before for domestic and 60 minutes before flights for international.


Business class passengers are allowed two carryon bags and economy passengers are allowed one. Maximum weight of carryon bags should not exceed 8 kg and the dimension should fall within 23 x 40 x 55 cm. Each passenger is allowed to check-in bags. Business class passengers are allowed a maximum weight of 32 kg per bag, while for Economy Class, the limit is 23 kg. The maximum dimension for individual items must not be more than 158 cm. Excess baggage will be charged US$80.

Child Fares

Infants enjoy a 90% discount on all corresponding adult rates. One adult is allowed per infant aged seven days to two years. Children between three and seven years old must travel with adults or escorts, while children between seven and 12 years old can travel unaccompanied, although an escort may also be requested with corresponding passenger fees. Escorts must be requested 48 hours prior to the departure.

Senior Fares

Seniors over 65 years old receive a 15% discount in business class fares for selected flights.


Certain breeds of dogs and cats with valid health certificates and entry permissions to their destination countries are welcome and can be carried if encaged in pet carriers not exceeding 45 x 35 x 23 cm. If the total weight of the pet and carrier exceeds 6 kg, the pet will be placed in the cargo compartment. Dogs for the blind and deaf are free of any charge.

Carrying Oversized Baggage (Musical Instruments, Strollers, etc.)

Musical instruments are considered baggage and will be subject to the same rules.

In-Flight Service

Turkish Airlines boasts digital audio video on demand in-cabin entertainment systems that include movies, music, games, audio books, and a variety of short programs. It also has telephone functions to allow phone calls during flights.

Air Miles

Miles and Smiles is Turkish Airlines' frequent flier program.

Airline Food

A wide array of meals is served on Turkish Airlines. Among the many choices available are child and baby meals, Asiatic and Strict Western vegetarian meals, and ethnic meals such as Hindu, Kosher, Muslim, and Oriental cuisine. Dishes for guests with health problems are also available like low fat, low sodium, low calorie, and low protein to name a few. Special meal requests must be made 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of departure and are only available on international flights.

In-Flight Magazine

SkyLife, Turkish Airlines' in-flight magazine, started as Mo Magazine in 1983 and changed to its current name in December 1989.
