Austrian Airlines AG was founded in 1957 and is the flag carrier of Austria. Headquartered in Wien-Umgebung, Austria, its subsidiaries are Lauda Air and Tyrolean Airways. It is primarily based at Vienna International Airport. Its IATA is OS and ICAO is AUA with a Callsign of Austrian. Its current CEO is Peter Malanik.

Flying Route

The focus of Austrian air's route is Eastern Europe and the Middle East, much of which is operated by subsidiary Tyrolean. It has more than 130 destinations of scheduled services. It operates short, medium and long haul routes to major destinations including Canada, China, India, United States, Israel, Dubai, Japan, Thailand and Erbil.


Austrian air has an online check-in procedure wherein you can check-in with electronic ticket from the convenience of your home or office 24 hours to one hour prior to your flight time. You can also select your seat assignment, check-in baggage, and print your boarding pass. Passengers can go straight to the gate with a valid photo ID and boarding pass. Web check-in is possible whether or not you have luggage. You can use web check-in for direct, transfer or return flights. Austrian Airlines is also offering discounted tickets for all Austrian guests using Web Check-in.


Baggage allowance for all flights except to/from USA and Canada are as follows: adults and children two years and over 20 kg/44 lbs for Economy class and 30 kg/66 lbs for Business Class plus one small item of sports equipment (max. 15 kg/33 lbs in weight and 1.40 m /4' long) or 1 golf bag size (max. 15 kg/33 lbs). Baggage allowance for flights to/from USA and Canada: Adults and children aged two years and above two bags max 23 kg/50 lbs each (Economy class) and two bags max 32 kg/70 lbs each (Business Class). The following items may be carried free of charge; one coat, jacket or blanket, umbrella, handbag.

Traveling Infants

Children up to two years old can be held by passengers who are at least 15 years of age and are not required to have their own seat. Only one child on an adult's lap is allowed. If one adult is traveling with more than one infant under two years of age, they have to purchase the seat for each additional infant. You can also choose to reserve a seat for your child at the applicable child fare. A child under two years old (24 months) can usually travel for 10% of an adult fare as long as the infant will be on the lap of another passenger for the flight.


Children traveling without their parents or guardian are considered to be unaccompanied minors. Austrian Airlines provides this service for children traveling alone who are at least 5 years old for an additional fee. They provide an escort for the entire journey. Domestic flights within Austria (direct or transit travel) charges 40 Euros each way, Non-stop flights within Europe 40 Euros each way, Transit flights within Europe: 80 Euros each way, Non-stop flights to/from outside Europe 80 Euros each way, Transit flights to/from outside Europe 100 Euros each way.


Animals are allowed on flights as longs as they are properly crated and have the required documentation and health certificate needed. Once they are accepted as baggage, the animal will not be included in the free baggage allowance. It is considered as excess baggage and you will pay the applicable fee. If a person has a qualifying disability and requires a service dog, the animal will be carried free of charge subject to airlines rules.

Frequent Flyer Program

Austrian Air's frequent flyer program is called Miles and More. You can earn miles on all flights operated by the Miles and More airline partners. You can also earn miles on your hotel stays from designated partners as well as rental car partners. Earned credits can later be redeemed for free airline tickets.

In Flight Services

Austrian Air's entertainment program includes interesting movies, music, games and several different means of communication. They also offer a choice between two dishes, special meals, and selective choice of drinks.
