Portugalia (Companhia Portuguesa de Transportes Aereos SA) is a regional airline based in Lisbon, Portugal, a subsidiary of TAP Portugal. It operates scheduled international and domestic services from Lisbon and Porto, as well as European charter services. Its main base is Portela Airport, Lisbon with a hub at Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport, Porto. Portugalia Airlines has just been awarded the prize for the Best Regional Company in Europe for the fifth consecutive year.

Whey Do They Fly

Portuga'lia Airlines (PGA) serves 43 destinations in 25 countries throughout Europe, Africa, North and South America. It offers flights to various international and domestic destinations between Porto and Lisbon, with chartered flights covering Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom. Its domestic connections include Oporto (Porto), Faro and Vila Real.


Online check-in facility is not available for USA. For other countries, this facility is only possible for passengers with confirmed reservations. It can be done between 25 hours before the flight up to 90 minutes prior to departure for passengers traveling without baggage or just carry-on luggage. Check-in online is carried out via website with the immediate print-out of the respective boarding card. For passengers with checked-in baggage, after online check in, baggage can be deposited in advance up to 75 minutes at counters available at airports.

Check-in time for domestic flights is one hour prior to departure, while for intercontinental flights it is 90 minutes prior to flight departure. All passengers must be at their boarding gate without exception 30 minutes prior to flight departure.


For safety reasons, transporting carry-on luggage with nail-clippers, files, penknives, scissors, knives or sharp objects, toys that imitate weapons, sprays, tools, bats and weapons/munitions is prohibited.

Under free allowance, two pieces of luggage of total maximum weight 22 lbs and maximum size 46" are allowed. As a part of check-in baggage, three luggage pieces, each weighing not more than 50 lbs and having dimensions within 62" are allowed free.

Excess baggage charge to and from USA per extra piece is 150 USD provided it is within free baggage weight and size limit. For overweight baggage, excess baggage charge is levied at 75 USD.


Many babies or young children travel without occupying a seat. They travel either in a child cradle or on their parent's or accompanying adult's lap. The airline company offers a child cradle for babies on flights, but also allows a child's own carseat to be used if the parents so choose. However, use of child cradle is subject to certain guidelines: Baby weight should not exceed 11 kg/24 lbs; child cradle dimensions are 70 cm/27.5" in length by 30 cm/12" in width. The weight of the child cradle and baby cannot exceed 15 kg/33 lbs with the weight of the child cradle not exceeding 4.25 kg/9 lbs. Each adult may carry one baby only. This service is free of charge.


All children under the age of 12, traveling alone, are considered Unaccompanied Minors. At the request of the parents or legal guardians of a child, the airline can arrange for a monitor to travel with minors with ages ranging from three (3) months to five (5) years of age in the event these are traveling alone. The hostess will occupy a seat that will be charged. In addition to the cost incurred by the child monitor, the child will also be charged an adult ticket price and not the respective child tariff. Unaccompanied Minors from five to seven years pay 100% of the applicable adult fee for the trip. An Unaccompanied Minor from eight to 11 years normally pays the applicable child rate for the trip. Booking for this service is done through the Call Center or Ticket Counter.


Animals can be transported both in cabin as well as cargo hold. Small sized animals such as cats, dogs or birds may be transported in the cabin, subject to space availability. Passengers may bring their own animal container or purchase one from airline. Animal weight should not exceed 7 kg/15 lbs (animal and container).

Guide-dogs accompanying visually impaired and/or deaf passengers may be transported for free.

For over-sized animals, transportation is allowed in special containers in the hold on the same flight as the passenger. A passenger should arrange for sufficient food and water for the entire journey.

All animals are charged as excess baggage and are not included in the free baggage allowance to which each passenger is entitled.

Frequent Flyer Program

Portugalia Airline's frequent flyer program is called Victoria. Program registration can be done through their website www.tapvictoria.com. With their numerous partners in hotels, credit card companies, car hires and telephone service suppliers, you can earn miles using services of any of these partners. Miles can be redeemed against free tickets, shopping discounts, gas discounts and for a variety of gift items.

In-Flight Services

A variety of meals, including special meals for children, are provided. An onboard shop is stocked with carefully chosen Portuguese products, primarily port wine, Officinal Real porcelain and filigree from Viana do Castelo. A selection of most recent feature films, business news and special programs on art and culture are screened on board.

A number of surprises are available to help younger passengers spend the time on the aircraft. This includes coloring books, pencils, and games. The children's music channel is also available on Airbus A340 with all the latest hits. Children will love it.

Airline Magazine

The in-flight magazine called UP is provided on all flights. It is a monthly magazine and contains articles and reports of interest and also general information about airline services.
