Overview

Spanair is one of the popular airlines in Spain. It was founded in 1986 but started to offer international flights in 1988. Since then, an estimated 104 million passengers have flown with the airline. Spanair strives to bring safe and comfortable flights for Spanish citizens and international tourists.

Spanair's IATA Code is JK, ICAO Code is JKK and Callsign is Spanair.

Where Do They Fly?

Spanair flies to 37 international and domestic destinations in Africa and Europe. Countries include Algeria, Gambia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Some cities that Spanair flies to are Alicante, Asturias, Barcelona, Bilbao, Lanzarote, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Madrid, Malaca, Minorca, Palma de Mallorca, Santa Cruz de Palma and Tenerife.

Check-In

Spanair offers online check-in that can be done at their website. The passengers can then print a boarding pass right after. This can be done 36 hours prior to the flight departure until as late as 40 minutes before the flight. You may choose your seat upon check-in. Mobile check-in and express check-in are also available.

Those who will check-in at the counters are advised to be at the airport at least an hour before the flight to avoid delays. Those with heavy baggage should also check-in as early as they can because excess baggage is admitted depending on the availability of space inside the aircraft.

Baggage

Baggage allowance differs according to the passenger's class. Those who are booked for the economy and economy plus classes are allowed with a maximum of 44 lbs of baggage while those who are booked for the Avant and Business Classes are allowed with a maximum of 66 lbs of baggage.

All passengers are entitled to one hand-carried bag not exceeding 18 lbs and one personal item such as reading material, camera, laptop computer or briefcase. All bags that will be carried in the passenger cabin or checked-in at the baggage counter should not contain any hazardous materials.

Infants

An infant should be carried by one passenger. For safety reasons, a passenger is not allowed to carry more than one infant at a time. Infants who are under two years old will receive a 90 percent discount on the flight. Parents of infants who are less than two weeks old are requested to present a medical certificate stating the child's medical condition to serve as proof that the child is allowed to travel. Flight attendants will make every effort to ensure that the child and the adult holding the child are comfortable during the flight.

Minors

An unaccompanied minor service is offered by the airline. This is available for children who are five to 11 years old, but is optional for those who are 12 to 15 years old. Children five to 11 years old who are traveling alone are mandated to enroll for the unaccompanied minor service. These children will be supervised by the airline staff throughout the flight.

Because Spanair only allows a specific number of unaccompanied minors for every flight, it is best to have this serviced book early on. Otherwise, the airline will not be able to accommodate your child. All minors below the age of 18 are not allowed to carry a child inside the aircraft. To avoid problems at the airport, a parent or guardian should make sure that all documents required are brought during the flight.

Pets

Spanair allows pets and animals inside their aircrafts. Before the flight, the airline advises passengers to pay a visit to the veterinarian and update all needed vaccinations and documents. The veterinarian will be able to help you on the different obligatory vaccinations that countries require.

Spanair has kennels available for rent in case you are not comfortable with buying a new one for your pet. Pets will be able to travel with the airline provided that they meet all the requirements. The animal should be a maximum of 13 lbs in weight and 20x16x10" in size. The fee for an animal is 30 Euros in the cabin and 60 Euros in the hold.
