Overview

Irish airline Aer Lingus was founded in 1936 and has grown to become one of Ireland's most relied upon airline carriers. Aer Lingus' aircrafts are distinguishable by their large use of green and white on aircraft designs accompanied by a large Irish Shamrock on the plane's tail. Aer Lingus is the national flag carrier of Ireland and operates under the IATA code of EI. Its ICAO code is EIN and the Callsign is Shamrock. Flying Route

Aer Lingus flies to over 60 destinations throughout Europe on a seasonal basis to countries such as the U.K, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Hungary, Denmark, Portugal, Amsterdam, Finland, Czech Republic, and Morocco. Routes to the United Stated include numerous destinations including major cities such as Chicago, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Orlando, Oakland, New York, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Syracuse, Tampa, and Washington.

Check-In

To keep airfare costs to a minimum, Aer Lingus has introduced an easy to use online check-in facility. The option allows travelers to check-in up to 30 hours in advance when flying within Europe and 24 hours in advance for destinations to the United States. For those without internet access, Aer Lingus has placed online check-in facilities at the airport known as FastPass facilities for customer use. Bags may be checked in online and then deposited at the relevant airport location when at the airport. For those who wish to take advantage of regular airport check-in services, there will be an extra charge for flights within Europe. The cost of this service is 10 - 15 EUROS each way per bag under 20kg/44 lbs. There is no charge for airport bag check-in when flying to the United States. The recommended airport check-in time for flights within Europe is two hours 30 minutes for destinations within Europe and three hours and 30 minutes for destinations within the United States.

Baggage

Aer Lingus allows passengers to check through 20kg/44 lbs in total per passenger when travelling within Europe. When flying to the United States, the maximum allowance for checked baggage is one bag weighing less than 23kg/50 lbs per person. All extra weight will be subject to a fee, and Aer Lingus does not accept the pooling of weight among passengers travelling together. Hand baggage is permitted on both long and short flights with a maximum weight of up to 6kg/13 lbs,. All hand baggage must fit within the passenger's overhead compartment box on the airplane. Traveling Infants

Aer Lingus provides discounted rates for parents travelling with infants. Children under the age of six months will be require to sit on their parent's lap and will be charged a flat rate of 20 euros plus taxes and charges within European destinations, or when travelling to the United States, 10% of the full ticket price. Parents have the option to purchase a car seat for the child to travel in. Aer Lingus will not accept one parent travelling with two children under the ages of six months. For a child between six months and two years old, a child's fare must be purchased.

Minors

For children aged between two - 12 years, they will be able to take advantage of a 10% discount on all fares to the United States. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by someone over the age of 16 who is willing to take responsibility for the child. Children between 12-16 years are allowed to fly unaccompanied by an adult providing their parents sign an indemnity form before flying. Children between 16-18 years of age are allowed to fly alone once the family accepts that they are flying as adults and that no extra care will be provided for them. Aer Lingus does not permit children under the age of 14 to be seated in exit row seats.

Pets

When travelling with an service dog, Aer Lingus requires that you provide relevant medical documentation to confirm that the dog is required for the passenger's well-being. The documentation may be no older than one year old and the airline must be informed at least 48 hours in advance of the flight's departure. Passengers travelling with service dogs are permitted to bring their dogs on all flights within the cabin free of charge. Guide dogs are not required to wear a muzzle once they are restrained properly by the owner.

Frequent Flyer Program

Aer Lingus offers a frequent flyer program for all their loyal passengers. The program is known as the Gold Circle Club and is divided into three levels - the gold level, the prestige level and the elite level. Members benefit by gaining mileage points when flying, which in turn can be exchanged for free flights, upgrades or discounted offers on other products and services.

In Flight Services

Long haul flights include an entertainment service, free of charge, where some of the latest movie releases and music stations are available for the relaxation purposes of the customer. Travelers have the option of purchasing snacks from the airline's Sky Cafe on flights within Europe. Passengers on long haul flights are provided with free meals and soft drinks. Sky shopping is available on board all flights for the convenience of the passengers.
