Overview

Founded in 1987, Aegean Airlines is the largest Greek Airlines by number of passengers flown and second largest by fleet size and destinations. Passengers enjoy comfortable, roomy leather seats, good food and competitive pricing. By taking delivery this year of 27 Airbus jets, Aegean Airlines will have the youngest fleet among Greek airlines and one of the youngest fleets in Europe.

Where Do They FLy?

As well as serving Greece, Aegean Airlines serves Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hungary and Italy with flights to several major cities including Cairo, Paris, Munich, London, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Rome and many more cities throughout Greece and Europe.

Check-In

Aegean Airlines' passengers have several options for checking in. Online check-in is available from 24 hours to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. By checking in online, a passenger can print the boarding card page and select a seat. At the airport, the passenger simply drops his baggage off at the desk and proceeds directly to the departure gate. Self check-in is available for those with e-tickets at "Self Service Kiosks" located in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania, Mykonos and Rhodes. Passengers simply follow the five-step procedure. Passengers also have the option of checking in at the airport counter if they are more comfortable doing so.

Baggage

Business class passengers are allowed checked bags up to 20 kg/44 lbs on domestic flights and 30 kg/66 lbs on international flights. Two carry-on bags, the first of which cannot exceed 55cm x 40cm x 20cm (22x16x8") and 8 kg/17 lbs, the second of which cannot exceed 45cm x 35cm x 20cm (18x14x8")and 5 kg/11 lbs. Infants are allowed up to 10 kg/22 lbs. Economy class passengers can check bags up to 15 kg/33 lbs on domestic flights and 20 kg/44 lbs on international flights. One carry-on bag, not to exceed 8 kg/17 lbs and 55cm x 40cm x 20cm (22x16x8")is allowed. A second bag will be charged for each kg over the limit on domestic flights and 1.5% of the IATA fare on international flights.

Minors

Aegean Airlines allows minors between the ages of five and 12 to travel alone. A reservation for the child must be made by phone. At the time of booking, the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the adults dropping the child off and picking the child up will need to be provided. Both need to present identification. The fee for this service ranges from 10 Euros per direction for domestic direct flights to 80 Euros per direction on code share flights with Lufthansa to Germany or within Europe. The fee for children traveling alone to London ranges from 30 to 45 Euros per direction.

Pets

Whether making the reservation online or by phone, passengers traveling with a cat or dog must inform the reservations department. Pets traveling on Aegean Airlines must have a health book available for inspection. If traveling abroad, the pet must have a passport and an ID microchip. One pet is allowed in the cabin if carried in an approved carrier. The carrier cannot be larger than 45cm x 23cm x 35cm (18x9x14"). The maximum weight is 8 kg/17 lbs. Pets exceeding 8 kg/17 lbs must travel as cargo and may only travel on Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Fees range from 4 Euros on domestic flights to 1.5% of the official IATA fare on international flights. Service dogs travel free of charge.

Frequent Flyer Program

The Aegean Airlines Miles and Bonus program offers two cards for frequent travelers. Both give members special privileges like free tickets, car rental, extra baggage allowance and special offers. The Gold Card offers additional privileges such as dedicated check-in, priority waiting list and access to the Aegean Airlines lounges. Blue Card membership starts at 4,000 miles and Gold at 16,000.

In-Flight Services

Depending on the length of the flight, economy class passengers receive a choice of snacks or sandwiches. Business class passengers also receive several complimentary items such as newspapers, food and drinks.

Aegean Airlines has code-share arrangements with Lufthansa, TAP Portugal and Brussels Airlines. In addition, it partners with Hertz for car rental.
